In
many homes, coat racks have been replaced by hall closets. It
is no longer so necessary to have coat rack and an umbrella stand
in the front entryway – many homes now have closets by the
front door to store the outerwear of guests during their visits.
Of course, not all homes do have these closets, and some of the
homes that do have them do not have room inside!
The solution? A coat rack. There are two main types of coat racks
– those that are free-standing and those that are mounted
to the wall. If you have very little space, the latter is the
better alternative. Otherwise, a standing coat rack can be a great
choice – it can actually be incorporated with the rest of
your furniture.
You may find it silly to spend much time in search of a stylish
coat rack because it will be covered up by coats and hats so much
of the time. Nonetheless, the base will be visible. A hook will
be visible now and then. And during warm weather, the whole rack
could be naked! You most definitely want it the rack to blend
in well with the style of your home.
Besides, your entry way (and therefore your coat rack) is one
of the first things that guests will see when they come in, and
the last thing they will see when they go out – you want
to be sure to make a lasting impression.
And during the times that your coat racks stand naked, there
are ways to dress them up a bit. Consider hanging up vintage hats,
dresses, or aprons on a wall rack. Display fun sports hats on
your standing rack. Have fun with your rack!
While there are many styles of coat racks out there (and some
styles are very novel), a basic (but not necessarily cheap) one
will likely suit you best. But be sure that you get a sturdy standing
coat rack and/or a wall coat rack with rounded knobs so as to
protect your clothing.
