Standing
coat racks are more than just places to hang up your coat and
hat – they are pieces of furniture. They are decorations.
They can be stylish and beautiful. With this in mind, you should
spend a little bit of time looking at standing coat racks before
you buy one – you didn’t buy the very first couch
that you saw, did you?
Here are some things to look for and some tips when shopping
for standing coat racks:
· Sturdiness – standing coat racks can be from 5
feet to 6 feet tall, and once you’ve hung up a few heavy
winter coats on the hooks, they can be a little top heavy. Be
sure that you purchase a rack with a very sturdy base!
· Number of hooks – you will be able to hang up a
lot more on a standing coat rack with 6 hooks than one with three.
· Hook placement – staggered hooks allow you to easily
see and access different coats. The same is true of hooks all
in a row. You want the rack to be as easy as possible to use.
· Rounded hooks – rounded, ball tip hooks are easier
on your coats than pointy hooks (of course, if you plan on using
the hanging loops of the jackets, you may want to avoid large
rounded hooks – it can be difficult to get the loop over
them.
· Umbrella stand – there are standing coat racks
with umbrellas stands attached right at the base. These combine
the function of two pieces of furniture into one, allowing you
to hide away your umbrella stand in favor of additional space.
· Homemade – why not have a little fun and make your
own rack? You can make a tee-pee or tripod of wooden boards and
add hooks. You could gather plumbing pipe and screw it together
to form a stand. The possibilities are practically endless.
Even if you have a hall closet to use for hanging up coats, you
may still want to invest in a standing coat rack – it can
be a beautiful decoration and piece of furniture.
